Description
The Governors Island Welcome Center is a visitor information center and navigational instrument for the island, composed of occupiable frames, angled louvers, and transparencies to create a series of visual layers between the pavilion and its environment. The pavilion’s geometry manipulates a sense of scale and orientation with movement. A structural and programmatic core, as a rotated square, houses the core retail and information functions, while the open perimeter provides an unscripted space for visitors to engage, relax, and connect with the island.
